A Prayerful Silence

A Prayerful Silence

I wait in the stillness of a welcome silence
Calmly content, aware of God's presence
A blessed time set part from the busy day
A loving conversation where I have my say
I listen as the waves of peace wash over me
I am overwhelmed with a grateful serenity
The air in church is cold as I see my breath
I contemplate life, the certainty of death
I am not fearful of a future not in my hands
Or the brevity of my time’s passing sands
Praying is a call to trust in God's goodness
A chance to resolve to strive for holiness
I thank the Lord for the wonder of my living
I ask for grace to be a person loving, giving
I implore a safe journey for those in my care
I pray to recognise that God is always there
As the speaking ends a great silence descends
My soul rejoices in an amazing grace God sends
