Seventh Station: Jesus falls the for the second time

Seventh Station: Jesus falls the for the second time
We adore you O Christ and we praise you
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world

Exhausted by the journey
Wanting to go on for love of humanity
This 2nd fall to the ground resounds throughout history

It is hard to imagine the physical effort that Jesus puts in on this most painful journey. Exhausted by the beatings, exasperated by the mockery, taken back by the extent of the hatred the Christ falls to the ground. The Lord of all came to birth in the humble surroundings of a cold, damp stable. Yet he was protected by the love of Joseph and Mary, heralded by the angels, the whole of heaven sighing in awe. Now the Christ stumbles to the ground abandoned, wounded, rejected, despised by the people who he has come to save.

I am tempted to turn my head away and pretend you are not suffering this torment. But you did endure it, you fell to the ground, but you got up again. Love was not overwhelmed by evil and hate.

When I am overcome by the sheer hatred of the world and the contempt it has for faith may I be strengthened by the journey to the Cross.
